During the Golden Age of Piracy, the feared captain Ebony Stormraven, known across the sea as Raven Blackheart, fell in love with a god. That god was Yucahu, Creator of the Taíno people and Lord of the Sea. Their son, Ranos, calmed waves at his presence and gathered sea creatures near him even as an infant. On his sixteenth birthday his mother finally revealed the truth: he was not human, and she had been using his gifts to enrich herself all along. Feeling betrayed, he abandoned her ship.
Yucahu appeared to his son beneath the Caribbean Sea and entrusted him with five divine relics, warning of a darkness that sought dominion over every ocean on Earth. Ranos and his mother's final confrontation came aboard her own flagship, in a storm Ranos himself had summoned, and rather than destroy her, he extended mercy. Centuries later he was reborn in the modern era as Gerald Wayne Jackman, one of the five core Illmatic alongside Citizen Soldier, Melanin FoxX, Canvas, and Jett Lag, until the ocean answered and his memories returned. The modern world knows him as Sonar.
